A Chinese national who exposed human rights abuses in Xinjiang has been granted asylum in the United States, after an immigration judge found he had a “well founded fear” of persecution if he returned to China.
In 2020, Guan Heng secretly filmed detention facilitates in the north-western Chinese region, where human rights groups say more than one million ethnic Uyghurs have been detained against their will.
Guan, 38, applied for asylum after arriving in the US illegally in 2021, but was detained in August as part of a mass deportation campaign by the Trump administration.
Plans to deport him to Uganda were dropped in December after his situation raised public concerns.

I mean, I only know what it’s like cuz I’m inside the US. But if I hadn’t ever left China, I’d probably falsely assume the negative news about the US is purely CCP propaganda.
People like him are still making decisions on old, outdated info that “the US is a safe haven” which was sort of true, at least before trump got elected a second time.
It’s like you hear about this rebel base, then you go there to defect, but it’s too late the Empire already taken control.
So this dude is basically in a “Snowden” type situation, went against one government and now he can’t criticize his new host government.
Yeah, that tells a lot more about China than about the US imho.

Cuz this dude probably had outdated info. He has the impression of what the US was like before trump term-2 and didn’t know about all the shit that has since happened.
Things have been escalating quickly in America. Some Canadians haven’t been keeping up and are acting like everything is normal. Some Americans probably think everything is normal too. Watching American television is getting spooky because most shows aren’t acknowledging what’s happening.
