The only country in the world where farmers are going out of business, because nobody can afford food.

Apparently not a problem around here. A new Publix (expensive grocery) went in a mile from the Winn Dixie, put them out of business. I should note that the Winn Dixie was very clean and modern. People opted to pay more because Publix is “nicer”.

Aldi has since moved into the Winn Dixie space. Went shopping last night and passed the packed Publix lot while Aldi was fairly empty. We generally spend $230 and get food for 3 weeks. Went to Publix when they first opened, long before the spike in food prices, spent $65 on a partially full hand basket.

There’s a shitty little Pic-N-Save down the road and it’s empty but for the poorest people. Wife and I went the other night and were laughing at how delightfully cheap everything is. Best tomatoes in town! People won’t go there because it looks like a 70s grocery.

For context, this is not a bougie area. We’re the redneck suburb of a very poor metro area.

It’s not a problem. Tariffs are brining in twice that every month, according to Trump. He can bail them out and subsidise them and still have plenty left over. Because that’s how free market capitalism works: with government subsidies and bailouts.

Still think that American elections, especially in Republican controlled states, accurately reflect the intent of the voters? That’s cute.

Well SOMEONE keeps voting for them enough to win. And Trump did win then popular vote this time around.

Because SOMEONE keeps making it much more difficult to vote for some people than others.

It’s no coincidence that there’s country clubs of a hundred members or less in almost entirely white and rich neighborhoods that you can vote in while at the same time there’s as little as one polling station for hundreds of thousands of people in areas where the population is mainly low income, nonwhite, or both.

And that’s not even getting into the wholesale disenfranchisement of people convicted of crimes by a “justice” system overwhelmingly stacked against poor people and people of color and in favor of rich people, especially rich white people.

I bet he’ll bail them out before this starts having a real effect at the ballot box.
