    Silksong Hollow Knight and Undertale

One is pretty much just another Metroidvania, and the other is way too indie/hipstery for my tastes.

I need to be able to kill things in video games without having to feel bad about deleting pixels, thank you very much.

Edit: I meant Hollow Knight, and I stand by what I said.

How would you know that Silksong is just another metroidvania when it isnt even out yet? It’s a sequel to one of the greatest games in that genre, of course there’s hype.

It’s still just another Metroidvania. I honestly don’t understand what makes it stand apart from others like Metroid or Dead Cells (aside from the fact Dead Cells is a roguelike)

Hand-drawn animation, creative world and character designs, charming voice acting, abilities that are fun to use and combo in interesting ways, boss fights that are challenging but fair, a world that’s much bigger and stranger than it first appears, satisfying endings, a bunch of free DLC… Yeah you’ve got a point I can’t see why people like it either.

A lot of that same stuff could be said for a lot of other games. Even in the exact same genre (Ori and the Blind Forest?)

                  A) that’s not a criticism… Every game in any defined genre is “just another x”.

                  B) I still think HK is superlative among its peers in many ways.

                  C) Ori is fine but is a lot more one-note than many games in the genre. The story is very derivative and the main interesting gameplay element is the mechanical way the jump works. The second game I really disliked, but the first one is unobjectionable.

I’m so glad I waited for a sale on Hollow Knight.

The hype had my expectations high. I was disappointed.

In contrast, I slept on Steamworld Dig 2, because the first one was just okay. But Steamworld Dig 2 is a nearly perfect Metroidvania.
