Gravpel - Power to the Filthy Masses [2021] - Reddthat
reddthat.comI am a conservative. Scratch that, fuck labels. I’m a dude who thinks all guns
should be legal, I don’t care if you’re lgbt or if you smoke weed, I think
illegal immigrants should be deported, and abortion is murder. When I first
heard about lemmy, I thought it was a good idea. Reddit was and still is a bad
place, for probably all the same reasons you guys think it’s a bad place. It’s
decentralized! That way if you get bad admins or even just a bad mod team, you
can just fuck off to the next instance. So like many, I made an account on the
largest instance, lemmy.world. And being me, I found the conservative community
there to be dead. So I figured I would revive it a bit, and started posting.
Unfortunately, another user took issue with that, and every time I would post
something, he’d post soon after, and bury my post. This happened time and time
again. I would report it and nothing would be done. The sub had basically been
abandoned. So I decided that I might as well do it myself. And I created
conservative on lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee], a place where conservatives could
post, and everyone could comment about it. I had a plan of action, I’d post once
or twice a day. I didn’t want to overwhelm anything, just keep it steady, invite
conversation, and try to help add to lemmy. Well it didn’t go well. We had more
than our share of trolls, and I didn’t want to be a power mod. So I failed to do
my job. I rarely banned people and when I did, I gave out short bans, and then
they’d just either come back, or create an alt and do it again. Notably, there
was one user that for some dumb reason, I decided that if I perma banned him, I
was a power tripping mod. So I didn’t, and I regret it. One memorable incident
was when I happened to know about the most popular hentai site in North America,
and so a user made it his life goal to follow me around and harass me for the
sin of knowing about the most popular hentai site in North America, constantly
calling me a pedophile. Of course I reported him, but he kept making alt
accounts to get around bans and blocks. My biggest mistake was the namecalling
ban, which got me banned from most of lemmy. I still stand by the intent, if not
the specific rule. It should’ve been more generic, a rule against namecalling,
and not a simple term ban. I had two mods, both of them great. I really
appreciated you guys, even I never said it directly. Over time, I slowly lost
any wish to continue. Then I had a major life event, negative, and I left a
couple weeks later. Now lemm.ee [http://lemm.ee] is shutting down, and I found
about it via reddit. I’m not sure what happened, why I’m not a mod nor is
wintermute, and why my community appears to be yet another left wing community,
but it doesn’t matter. And now here I am, posting about my experience here.
Dunno if it really fits here, but I figured it was worth sharing and there isn’t anywhere else it would go
I found this really relatable, as someone who used to be a mod on a Lemmy instance before I basically got run out of the server I was on by intolerant bigots. Everything came to a head with this brigade on the server’s admin (who is a good dude as far as I can tell):

Leading up to this, leftist trolls had been brigading my communities, throwing fits about me sharing left wing articles and flooding my posts with downvotes. I didn’t mind the downvotes because Lemmy is a leftist platform at the end of the day, but did make a rule against “I don’t like that website” comments because it amounted to spam.
It is difficult to cultivate flourishing communities centered around news, current events, or politics on Lemmy that isn’t a BlueAnon echo chamber. This is why I am here (using Lotide) and don’t plan on using Lemmy again anytime soon. The community is far too toxic and propagandized to be a healthy place for political discourse.
well said! Just the fact that a lot of Lemmy says that “Reddit is too Right-Leaning” for them, tells you just how bad it is here. Reddit of all places, being too right leaning?! Give me a break! lololol Reddit is want of the biggest anti-conservative places out there. lol
Even my girlfriend, who hates Trump and conservatives, gets sick of all the anti-trump and anti-conservative stuff on reddit. lol
Technically, lemmy is just using a protocol that allows it to federate with other people using that protocol. Many of the leftist went to Lemmy because they were kicked off the other platforms for the Nazi Bar Problem. The developers of lemmy didn’t create the protocol. They are using Lemmy as their version of the software using that protocol. The same protocol used by threads, etc
Fair enough, I really am speaking of Lemmy so broadly because 99% of Lemmy instances are leftist. Culturally and politically it is wayyyyyyy more homogeneous than even Mastodon.
For this style of instance. They’re about the only game in town. The others haven’t grown or failed. I will give the lemmy developers credit. They’re dragged this software along where other have failed. I believe this is classified as a link aggregator.
Yes the Lemmy software is great. It’s why I came back to Lemmy, I had actually checked it out once and then ended up leaving several years ago.
I know there are mbin and PieFed but IDK how good they are. I know that PieFed does have some federation issues with Lotide (which is what I am using).

Wow, I just read all of the stuff in those links. This stood out: @bdonvr, admin of The Lemmy Club has, in my opinion, responded in good faith to the concerns raised in this post, and so I have withdrawn my proposal for defederation. In summary: They will no longer be allowing conservative/right wing communities on their instance
So much for Lemmy being all about diversity. lol
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this eventually happens to my communities, but so far the admin has been amazing and truly believes in diversity. But I’m sure that people will keep hammering on him.
some of the people try to bully to control the content which really just destroys what the fediverse is supposed to be.
