Guys I’m in a slump, I keep having the same fight every time I feel bored and want to go out to do something and I can’t because I don’t know what to do because I don’t even know what kinds of things I can do, like what classification of activity I should pick. And even when I do pick an activity class I’m paralyzed with the decisions regarding how to execute that activity. It’s a 3dimentional puzzle of trying to find what doesn’t make me miserable, is actually available to me, and I understand.
Here is my current list of activity classes, I keep it as an Obsidian Kanban board where each lane is a my opinion. What classifications should I add or if you have any ideas for what specific things I can do I’d really appreciate that too.
I’m based in Brooklyn

Get a bmx and go ride around the city, learn to do tricks. Hours of fun. You’ll pick up chicks too. If you give your bike a girls name.
You really need to work on getting comfortable with sitting in silence because being alone with your thoughts is where wisdom comes from.
Start with something social - like volunteering for a specific event. There you will meet new people, but the commitment is short-lived. You can try to expand that friendship further on.
You can try picking a single class at a community college. For example, I took a writing class, which absolutely has interaction. Again it has a definitive start and end so that you don’t have to keep up with it.
Additionally, you might consider joining a workout class at a community center. It doesn’t have the full-time commitment of a gym, but it does allow you to meet some new people.
It looks like you kind of have analysis paralysis. Pick one thing, and try it. But understand that you may need to push yourself outside a comfort zone. And you really need to understand what it is you wish to obtain from it. Are you looking for mind activity? Or are you looking for a social environment? Or are you looking for a new hobby?
[⋅] Sewing #art #equipment
Start off small, try sewing scrap cloth A to scrap cloth B. If you don’t hate it and your neck or fingers don’t hurt too much after, it might be the
hobbycritical post-apocalypse life skill you needed. Next thing you know you’ll have upgraded to leather and sewing fake cat ears onto all your hats or using wire to add strips of stainless steel to leather gloves to give them that sweet medieval guantlet look. Even if you don’t descend that far into the sewing void, knowing how to quickly stitch up the crotch of pants that rip open unepectedly is one of those things you will always appreciate.Just try things. I mean a lot of things.
You will discover that you love doing things you would never expect to love. You will also find that things that are fun on paper are pretty boring to you when you do it.
I’m not sure lol.
I volunteered at a farm animal sanctuary. It was super eye opening seeing the animals. I got to play with some little piglets and cattle calves and shit. It was great. Maybe look at something like that
I have picked up HEMA historical European martial arts. It’s sword fighting. It’s super fun. Everyone at my club is a massive nerd as you might expect. It’s good exercise and genuinely fun. The down side is the kit is pretty expensive. At my club we have a newby joining session with a discounted attendance period which builds to a safety test before you really need to get safety kit which gives people a chance to try it before they spend hundreds on jackets and masks (and swords!).
Hiking doesn’t have to be a solitary pursuit.
I love doing it in a group. Hiking, too.
Came here to say hiking and group sex aswell. 🙃
They both have the added benefit of getting you healthier, too
[🥇] Create complicated lists
It’s not that complicated as soon as you ignore all the tags and formatting. Then it’s just a list of positive activities.
#alone
Write code and play games. I’m currently hyper fixating on Satisfactory right now, and it’s fun.
I actually did get back into satisfactory bc code wasn’t fun for a few weeks, it really made me miss code
And I thought I have too amny on my list …
How about you put them in a hat and draw from the hat every week. Aftef you are done with it you can ask for a new list :DI play disc golf. Where I live it’s free in the various state parks. You do have to buy some discs, about $20 each, but you don’t need many.
Oh my. #wtf #why-hashtags
I like Obsidian
The hashtags don’t help your non-Obsidian powered Lemmy post though.
But they do work on clients that support Markdown, like Voyager.
They’re leading you to posts tagged with these hashtags though, which is not the same intention as hashtags in Obsidian.md.
Ah I see.

Based on the stuff you didn’t like it sounds like you want something challenging but not too hard and something in a group or duo instead of solo. Maybe a team sport that people don’t take very seriously like join a bowling league or amateur league for something you used to play. If I’m ever really stuck I’ll read some philosophy for inspiration on what to do, ethics are normative so they might help in motivating a specific choice over another. Maybe In Praise of Idleness by Bertrand Russell for a short essay or for something more substantive but not dry or boring Knowledge, Reality, and Value by Michael Huemer.
