The letter states that Iran has never initiated a war and has resolutely repelled those who have attacked it, and that portraying Iran as a threat is not consistent with historical reality or present-day observable facts.
The President invites Americans to look beyond the machinery of misinformation and consider the realities of Iran and its people, and to choose between confrontation and engagement, which will shape the future for generations to come.
Obviously it’s not entirely true, but it’s only to the degree that they sabotage the livelihood of Iranians, which USA has been doing pretty consistently since the 50’s. AFAIK Iran hasn’t done much more than defend the rights to their own country.
The Hostage situation after the Shah was removed was a civilian attack on the embassy, and the reaction by USA punishing a whole country for that for more than half a century is even more despicable than when USA replaced a democracy in Iran with a dictator.
Yes we ended up with a disgusting patriarchy in Iran, but that is actually mainly the fault of USA for instating a dictator just to make money on the Iranian oil!!!
Most of what the Iranian president states is true, and way more trustworthy than anything we hear from the White House.
