China won’t help the United States reopen the Strait of Hormuz as requested by Donald Trump, but it is probably welcoming the delay in Trump’s highly anticipated trip to Beijing as the U.S. risks getting bogged down in the Middle East, analysts say.
The latest developments are unfolding as Trump’s Iran war, in its third week, is faced with mounting pressure as oil has stopped moving through the strait and U.S. allies have refused to step up to secure the strait. That has produced concerns that China, the United States’ biggest geopolitical rival, could stand to benefit from a war that some say was ill-considered.
China is just sitting back and watch this mess unfold. Of course there was zero chance of China helping the US. If anything it is strengthening the CCP position at home where the US turns the world is in chaos, but China remains stable and turned inward. The Chinese people mostly care about stability and safety. It’s all playing in China’s hands.
Well, China imports most of its oil, so not all is playing into their hand, but they might consider it a worthy tradeoff.
That’s the beauty of it. The strait of Hormuz isn’t closed to ships carrying oil or gas to China. Supposing that the US wants to change that, they can, but then China has a lot of options available to them, up to an including enterint the war directly.

I assume this only applies to Iranian oil, as the US and its allies applies to basically every other oil exporter in the region.
