In a long, rambling address that was by turns bombastic, aggrieved and self-congratulatory, President Trump pronounced last rites on American leadership of the liberal democratic order forged by the United States and its allies after World War II.
Mr. Trump used a keynote speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday — a pilgrimage site for adherents of globalization — to assert that the United States was done offering its markets and its military protection to European allies he derided as freeloaders. And he vowed to advance his trade war. He characterized tariffs as the price of admission to a land of 300 million consumers.
It’s not just Trump that cedes the global economic leadership of USA, it’s the American population, they did that when they voted MAGA in 2016, and they put the final nail in the coffin when they reelected Trump in 2024.
The MAGA ideology was always disrespect for allies and partners. Tearing up all sorts of agreements including trade agreements and regarding security where Trump already during his first time used rhetoric about how NATO was obsolete. And a constant messaging on how the world needs USA more than USA needs the world.
So Americans chose to pull away and cede leadership both economic and and on defense.
This ideology has permeated the GOP since Bush the older became President, heck it had already started with Reagan.
This is not an isolated problem that suddenly happened January last year. This is a trend that USA has taken as a people for many decades.
Of course there are both good and smart people in USA, and they are not the ones that are driving the destructive mentality of the people as a whole. But unfortunately the stupid and malignant people of USA have taken over. And they have done that repeatedly, electing worse and worse candidates. Now to a point where a lot of the damage they are doing is irreversible.
