I hope every one knows this is a myth and that the tail of an earthworm won’t grow into a new worm when it is cut off. It may writhe for a bit, but will soon die.
Not that I imagine Larson was especially concerned about strict details, but maybe he was thinking of planarians. For example, the invasive hammerhead worm is definitely not something you want to go hacking up…
