Only those with a direct active role and sufficient knowledge were charged in the post-war trials.
90+% of the SS members just went right back into their pre-war jobs.
(At least in the western part, the Soviets were much more…thorough in their de-nazification.)

Also, a janitor in a civilian building will never be an active combatant by any stretch of international law, no matter which organisation they belong to.

There is no true reporting in a war zone. The only people with access and reach are the conflict parties, both of which have a strong incentive to lie.

The question boils down to: Who provides that someone with the means to live?

Taken to its logical conclusion, that would mean no more search engines, video or image hosting sites, or actually any websites that aren’t tied to a paid service, financed by taxes or donations, or provided by hobbyists as a pastime.

The question remains: Why should someone pay the cost of providing you a service or hosting a website, if you won’t pay with money, your data, or by seeing ads?

There are just some people out there who despite having every moral reason to do so, can’t get themselves to kill another person.

The vast majority, according to research, even when it’s literally “kill or be killed”. Most people really do not want to kill other people.
You can get them to kill through rigorous drills that automate a soldier’s reaction, so opening fire in the right situation becomes almost like a reflex. But that takes time, and Ukraine didn’t have enough of that for enough soldiers.
This has been a “problem” for commanders in all wars throughout history. Personally, it’s a fact that restores my faith in humanity.
