I’d believe that some corners were cut in these servicemen’s duty, and it just happened to be one too many corners one too many times. The men are fatigued, they want to get off the ship. It’s possible these corners were even cut on purpose with exactly this result in mind in an attempt to get them off the ship.

I think it is likely that the Ukraine war will be widely considered the beginning of a series of events that will later be labeled “the ramp up to WWIII”, of which this is an indirect extension.

I quit IT work to be a mechanic. It’s exactly the same problem-solving process, but the problems are almost always way less arcane. I’m very happy with the switch.

If you wanted to make the switch yourself, the skill sets are very interchangeable. You’re just debugging an alternator instead of an Active Directory setup. If you have a willingness to learn you’ll be up to speed in under a year.

Any Americans in this thread, have any of you ever been polled about anything regarding any of this? I know I sure haven’t. I wish they would poll me, I got an awful lot of opinions for these mfers.

Trump and his associated hangers-on have a long and storied history of pulling numbers directly out of their asses. It perplexes me that anyone takes anything the government says right now at face value.

About once a year or so I go replay Morrowind, the chaddest of the Elder Scrolls series.

This past year I replayed Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt tacked onto it, which has been extremely cool and fresh. TR really feels like official content a lot of the time, it’s quite good and the love that’s been put into it is very apparent.

Currently playing FFVI myself. It’s a treat.

Bit easier than other Final Fantasy games, I’m finding… at least in the early game, Edgar and Sabin are ass-blasting everything in the game with very little resistance, those boys probably don’t even need the rest of the Returners squad. I know that will probably change later but the duo are definitely the MVPs of act 1.

I’m also of mixed opinion about the ability to teach every party remember every spell in the game. It’s obviously not the best idea, that I can’t stop myself from doing. Does Edgar or Gau need to know how to cast Bio or Slow or Rasp? No, not at all, and they’re probably better served leveling up with magicite that gives them useful stats. Will they learn those spells? You betcha.

They also have the highest incidence of fire based death of any car of all time, including the Ford Pinto, which was best known for catching fire.

This is extremely cursed and it will definitely have strings attached that no one wants, but in a question of survival vs not, I don’t blame them one bit. This is a decision centered around “we have to survive today to solve this problem tomorrow”.

Yes. Fascism must be stamped out internationally, and they’re in hilariously bad condition after sending millions of soldiers to die in Ukraine. They lose an average estimated 5,800 more soldiers per month. This has been going on for years. Now (or soon) is definitively the best time to strike back and this opportunity will not arise again.

Yes. Fascism must be stamped out internationally. This one might actually be a fight, but the only reason it would be one is because of the massive amount of funding and arming that we did for Israel.

1. Texas can’t even properly support their own power infrastructure inside their own state

2. The vast majority of the population of Texas (Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft Worth) are solidly blue. The state maps are gerrymandered to death such that 100,000 square miles of empty land has the same voting power as over ten million citizens. This is the sole and only reason Texas is consistently “red”, is via rampant voter disenfranchisement.

My parents knew exactly what day the report card was coming home. They’d be waiting for me two steps inside the front door asking me to present it the second I arrived home.

My school would always send out a calendar / schedule at the beginning of the year showing all the school days, report card days, holidays, teacher workdays, and so on. So there was no sneaking around that for me.

Oh sure, but they’ll continually claim until they’re blue in the face that everything they do is about money. So they should be continually exposed as the financially irresponsible idiots that they are.

For the people where egregious human rights violations and terrorism aren’t deal breakers, wasting money is. Frankly I don’t respect their opinion, however, they also vote, therefore their opinion does matter.

In the South? Yes, definitely.

1. The Mexico border is down there. This is worrisome, not because of the Mexicans, but because ICE gangs like to hang out near the border to try and catch runners. A lot of them are tied up in northern cities right now kidnapping citizens but I wouldn’t expect them to leave the southern border undefended.

2. It’s extremely hot as fuck right now. Further south you go the worse it gets. I’m ~600 miles north of Orlando and it was 109F outside today (that’s about 43C) with over 50% humidity. When you pass through my home state of Louisiana you’ll be seeing closer to 115F/80%. With heat that high and humidity content that high heat stroke becomes extremely easy. You’ll be dealing with this from Florida through around maybe Texas where it starts to become a drier heat, with lower humidity, but places like Arizona used to hit 120F/49C before we were all talking about global warming.

3. Southern Americans (as in, Southerners in the US, not people who live in South America, I know it’s confusing) are not all racist, but uh… you’ll see more who are, than aren’t. If you’re any shade of brown you’re going to have a rough time. If you speak with a “funny” accent you’re going to have a rough time. Armed racists populate huge swathes of the southern and midwestern US. This is statistically more likely to be just upsetting rather than directly harmful in most situations, but I wouldn’t want to roll those dice, it’s still very possible to find people who would just abduct and kill a foreigner they don’t like.

Currently speaking, your biggest problems in the American South right now as a foreign tourist are going to be local racism and ICE. The local racism has been around forever and is mostly tolerable if you don’t take offense easily, but you can probably expect to be called some slurs right to your face in more than a few small towns. ICE is a newer and probably bigger problem at the moment. They have orders from the president to capture and deport more people than they will possibly be able to accomplish, so anyone who looks or sounds foreign and doesn’t have three forms of ID on them to prove citizenship is increasingly likely to get bagged, tagged, and dragged to a blacksite somewhere. I’m not confident that a tourist visa (or even a work visa) is going to stop them, it’s already been proven that actual valid citizenship doesn’t stop them.

Both. It’s both. I hope they stay safe. There are like 4 different major threats to a foreigner on that route.
