  • Honestly, there’s too many school shootings to keep track of over there, it’s basically just routine now. Awful as it sounds, reporting on them seems as pointless as reporting on motorway crashes - they keep happening regardless and are horrible preventable tragedies, but are limited in scope of their effect on a national or international scale.

High profile political activist assassinations are far less frequent though, and far more impactful on that country and potentially on an international scale depending on how the country adjusts it’s policies or social norms (it’s not a good thing I know, but they have become jaded to shootings in their schools and barely bat an eye when it happens on a national scale any more, so it doesn’t really affect anything worth reporting on over here).

So, I can understand why one would get more attention than another, even if it’s not remotely just or fair.

But yes, I can’t imagine why our government would offer condolences or anything positive towards that fascist’s memory or family. We’re not afraid of calling a spade a spade over here, but our government isn’t exactly stellar, alas.

I have long hoped that they would sort out their school slaughter problem, it’s ridiculous that they’ve built and maintain a society that not only allows it to happen in any but the rarest most extreme of circumstances, but that they aren’t interested in fixing the issue enough to actually make meaningful change.

Heck, I see them installing special equipment to slow down gunmen, I see them trying to arm their teachers (insanity), and give kids bullet proof backpacks and such. It all sounds ridiculous looking in from the outside so I don’t know how much of that is even true, but it seems they’re trying to treat the symptoms not the cause :-(

Anyway yeah, our current government sucks, I certainly didn’t vote for them. Their stances on a great many things don’t represent my views.

  • They were allowing kids to use phones in classrooms up to that point…?

When I went to school, if you were seen with your phone out during class it was confiscated until the end of the day. And back then all you could use them for was texting anyway haha.

Anything that might distract from the lesson would be treated the same way, that’s just basic sense for any teacher.

Why would teachers stop caring about phones in classrooms, especially given how famously addictive and problematic to attention etc we now know them to be?

  • 49% chance the world will end in just 25 years

Giant meteor coming to wipe out all of the world’s life?

predicted civilisation could collapse by 2050

Oh, so just the collapse of current civilisation. That’s happened many, many times already.

While not a good thing for those experiencing it, consider this. As we look back on previous civilisations, would we consider ours to generally be the best up to now? I’d say so. Perhaps what comes next will be even better.

The collapse of a particularly large civilisation is usually a slow affair that is difficult even to spot from the inside as it’s happening (consider the slow crumbling of the USA currently for example).

So while it is a period of turmoil and not a small amount of suffering, it’s not like everybody is going to die and humanity will go extinct, or anything.

  • Fascist Techno-Oligarch Elon Musk obviously shouldn’t be given any control over the United Kingdom’s vital national infrastructure. His track record speaks for itself.

No private for-profit business or individual, international or national, should EVER control our key national infrastructure.

Electricity, Water, Sewage, Health Service, Internet connectivity, Roads, Trains, Military, Aeroplane infrastructure, Fire Brigade, Education, Street Lighting, Police Service, etc.

All are vital to the nation and the public interest, and should be owned by the people of the nation and managed by the democratically elected governing body the people have placed in charge to run things, without the capitalist profits driven mindsets of private individuals.

This just seems like obvious common sense to me, and yet here we are, sadly.

  • Don’t go to the USA.

Even if you’re convinced their jackboots will spare you. It’s not worth the risk, they’ll target you for anything they like.

Maybe you’re not quite white enough, maybe you liked a Facebook post criticising their government, maybe you’ve got an unamerican sounding name. Maybe you just weren’t deferential, weak and obedient enough when they spotted you trying to come through the airport.

They will target you and send you to their concentration camps. If you’re lucky you’ll eventually be sent home with no physical injuries and just PTSD.

Don’t go to the USA. It’s just not worth it. There are far nicer places to visit that aren’t fascist hellholes.

  • Good thing we caught all those dangerous terrorists before they could do anything evil!

Imagine if all those 474 extremist insurgents hadn’t attended a public protest, we might never have caught them. Who knows what dastardly deeds they could have wrought from deep within our own society in the shadows.

They could be your colleague, your postman, your neighbour, your cousin, or even your own wife! Trust no-one!

We must remain vigilant against this evil menace and be grateful the police anti terror squad is watching us at all times, just in case one of us should turn 🫡💂‍♀️🇬🇧

  • Now, when you (whoever wrote the title) say settlers, do you mean occupiers, or actual settlers? It seems people forget basic facts when talking about these particular nations.

You can’t force people from their homes, move in, and call yourself a settler. You’re an occupier from a hostile nation, or an annexer, if you like that term better.

If you find some unclaimed land or are invited in by the locals, then you’re a settler.

One can make the argument that you’re just being literal, but at that point - as a journalist who should be using the most clear and communicative language, you’re just trying to frame something bad under a different light, which speaks volumes about you and your agenda.

  • So, so many poorly informed people in here jumping to conclusions, many of which were already ruled out in the preliminary report.

I don’t know any more than what’s in that document myself.

Perhaps some of the armchair aircraft safety investigators in here might want to at least skim the details before coming up with wild theories? Or at least provide reasoning and evidence to support them.

May those who lost their lives, and their loved ones, find peace and closure as best they can once we have all the details. Until then, it would be crass to speculate, especially as non-experts not privvy to the details of the investigation.
