Conservatism, probably. The whole in-group supremacy thing is pretty bad.

I think a lot about how “good” and “fun” are two different things.
You can have a game that’s a fascinating exploration of a theme that really unifies mechanics and story, but is an absolute downer of misery to play.
You can also have a game that’s a glorified slot machine with bugs, no real player input, and abusive monetization, but people’s brains light up playing it.
There’s some subjectivity of course, but sometimes I see games that are good at what they’re trying to be, but I don’t have any fun with them. Some people seem to demand those overlap all the time.

I don’t know a lot about how fingerprinting works, but some of what i’ve read is pretty insidious. Some things could probably be obfuscated, but some of what the trackers use has legitimate purposes as well. Your application may serve different content based on the screen size, or fall back to an older library if such-and-such API isn’t supported.
Personally I’d rather make targeting advertising and tracking illegal, and gut the whole thing to avoid the arms race.

So you’re going to make it illegal to call getBoundingClientRect and then pass that information to fetch through any mechanism?

You’d have to kill a lot of JavaScript and CSS for that to work, and then a lot of legitimate function goes away.
Done much web development work?

I’m pretty sure for fonts they can tell because they have different widths, which affects page layout, which can be measured.
There’s a lot of stuff like that.
Best would be make it illegal and give the law teeth. Solving it technically will always be an arms race.

Conservatives don’t care about being correct or consistent. They say things for effect. They follow their feelings. Something inside them is broken and ruined. They project constantly onto others, because introspection would shatter their flimsy ego.

if he does, that’s pretty much ww3
So I don’t want to like die in nuclear fire but if a foreign power toppled the US government and tried+convicted all the Republicans of crimes against humanity, that doesn’t sound so bad.

Cars ruin everything. The primacy of cars is upstream from a surprising amount of problems with modern life.

prohibits gatherings of more than 20 people on open land where the music played consists wholly or predominantly of “a succession of repetitive beats”
This is a monstrous law and everyone involved in its passage should be barred from politics and positions with decision making power.

If americans could learn we wouldn’t have a 2nd trump presidency. We’re on average stupider than bart with the cupcakes.

Off the top of my head …

Probably because all the horrible shit trump does takes up all the space.

My hot take has always been that Xbox was a stupid project. They had windows. People play video games on windows. They should have made steam and something like steam machines 25 years ago.

Maybe they could focus on delivering quality products that customers want, instead of investing all their time and effort into expensive AI widgets people don’t.

Well surely you can agree that letting men into women’s change rooms
If the idea is that that’s a no-no because men are sexually attracted to women, then I must remind you that gay people exist.
If the idea is that men cannot be trusted, then there are many other spaces where men have power that should be examined first.

Skyrim. It was at best “fine” for me. I really dislike level scaling. The combat felt unsatisfying. I don’t remember the story. It’s not weird like Morrowind. The magic and enchanting was over-simplified.
But for many people it’s their grand joy. So I guess that’s good for them.

Did not expect caves of qud to be on anyone’s list, as I thought it was pretty niche.
I also really wanted to like the game, but it felt oddly empty. I wanted less lost in the wilderness, less static quests, more dynamic stuff to do and explore.

I have much respect for “it’s not fun for me” and less patience for “it’s bad”. Totally understand why you might not find the games fun.
What I was trying to get at is something can be worthwhile even if you don’t personally enjoy it.
