  • it’s fascinating that from the headline it’s absolutely unclear whether the protests are even related to the 16 kills. if i were glancing (and wasn’t aware of the situation), i would’ve thought that 16 were killed as Israeli finally listened to the protesters or something.

“protesters in Israel” (must be some foreigners) vs “Israeli strike”.

while they actually demand a ceasefire that will allow for release of hostages, and their government does everything to avoid that ceasefire. oh, and then there’s “strike kills 16” leaving it ambiguous whether military or war crimes.

also ceasefire implies both sides are fighting. from what i can tell Hamas pretty much stopped fighting almost two years ago.

“Israeli protesters demand their military to stop attacking Gaza, as Israeli army kills 16 civilians and journalists in an attack on a hospital in Gaza in another apparent war crime”.

    how about now?

  • Civilian disobedience can take many forms, not all of them involve an active confrontation with the government or police.

Unfortunately, from what it looks like, all everyday russians are living their normal everyday lives.

Unfortunately this means that the majority of the population either supports the war (especially as long as they’re winning) or are zombified enough not to care.

In either case, those are people that will be fine with being conscripted and sent to the front. As long as they’re not getting hurt, themselves, of course.

By all means, I’m not advocating russian style of bombing obviously civilian targets, but those russians are far from poor and powerless.

They do nothing because it’s uncomfortable.

  • the answer is - it doesn’t matter. the biggest learning from the nazi germany was that you don’t need the entire population of a country to be homicidal psychopaths. all you need is a small group of those psychopaths, control or media, propaganda and you get a perfectly functioning system where normal everyday folks go to their normal everyday jobs.

just those jobs are in gestapo. or in maintenance of gas chambers. or making food for the equally confused soldiers.

of course, we should avoid civilian casualties as much as we can (but apparently russian army is not required) but the system needs to be stopped.

russia has cancer. chemoterapy is not a pleasant procedure that affects both ill and healthy cells. the alternative is, unfortunately, to allow that cancer to spread to the entire planet.
