I knew a Brit that felt they should’ve kept it with violence, consequences be damned. So there was always the straight-up colonial option.
They also supported Brexit.
This and Midvale School for the Gifted were some of my favorite Far Side comics.
This one in particular I remember doodling iterations of in class as a kid. Peak comedy to my elementary self.

Well, no it won’t change the true believers minds outright. That is true. But I do know the biggest divisions we’ve seen in public with the GOP has been over the epstein files.
Anecdotally it’s the only topic the chuds I know don’t want to discuss, be aware of, or have to do the work to justify.
So if anything it thins their ranks a bit, which is absolutely a worthwhile end. No other wedge issue has been as effective.

It’s the only thing that actually threatens his base of support.
Epstein files is the only thing that shuts the chuds up. They’re cheering about Venezuela and getting off to ICE murders. But they, for whatever reason, only draw the line at pedophilic elitism.

So you know the greater context then, of the British in Tibet, at the very least.

The British Empire, whistling innocently.

Qinxian made a decision that saved countless lives, much like Arkhipov in the 60s.

None of these are mutually exclusive.

- American assets,
- lunatic nationalists who happen to side with the US for a variety of reasons,
- more or less reasonable (for politician standards), but still afraid to confront the US in any way.
Category #3 is just as afraid of the lunatic nationalists as defying American interests. This is, from my perspective, why Europe has traditionally had some issues with ultranationalism.

One of the more interesting polls out of this was whether voters were casting in support of or against a candidate.
86% of Mamdani voters were voting out of support of their candidate.
Half of Cuomo voters were voting against another candidate. (Mamdani.)
Voting against a candidate is a losing strategy.

It’s based on users sending in reports, and positive news for the left or news critical of Israel unleashes an army of rules lawyers.

Meanwhile pundits on CNN is calling this a ‘warning lesson’. Anderson Cooper and crowd fear mongering even through victory.

My understanding the media focus is about how bad it is that this was leaked and that the leakers are bad because it hurts the state of Israel.
Which is exactly what I would expect.

I thought it was George Santos in the thumbnail for a moment. And was not surprised.

It appears those are specifically problems China is on the trajectory of solving/improving for itself.
The American CEOs going to China are returning to find those issues getting worse everyday with no solution in sight.
It felt a bit implied and would seem really contrived to reassure the reader China has those problems.

Another component is Sevestopol, within Crimea, which has largely been a (colonial) Russian city for almost its entire history. The USSR eedesignated it as a part of Ukraine in the 1950s.
They’re not thinking that far ahead and likely give zero shits either way.
I bet they chose to tell this guy they support Russia just to make arresting this guy more abusive.
