  • I think religion is capable of doing great things, but yeah, more often than not it seems to be a gateway to fascism and other extreme right dictatorships.

The red text of Jesus was based. It taught me that God weeps for the sparrows so we also should value and protect nature. Jesus washing the disgusting feet of people who walked around all day in sandals without socks taught me that truly great leaders use their position to serve the weak and vulnerable. Jesus warning that it was impossible for the wealthy to enter heaven and ordering us to take care of the poor just like we would take care of him if he needed it taught me empathy and helped me become a communist.

So yeah, Christian communism is based, but Christianity under capitalism becomes a tool of fascism.

  • If we turned SpaceX into a worker’s co-op then I would also be fine with it, but I don’t think replacing Elon with another billionaire would help anything. I truly believe nearly every single billionaire on earth is morally bankrupt and far too detached from reality. The best case scenario for the continuation of billionaires is that live like evil dragons hoarding all their wealth while the planet burns… But far too often, billionaires use their wealth to erode democracy and to ratchet the world towards fascism.

If we truly want to save our world then billionaires need to be abolished, capitalism needs to be converted into market socialism, and we need to make education and improving democracy our #1 priorities so that we can actually build functioning science driven governments that are willing to fight for data proven policies

  • That is a bit over my head (my degree is in CompSci), but the research samples only had a 3C degree margin for error (77 to 83C) so I am assuming they had a good reason for using the setup that they had. Or maybe they were forced to accept that setup due to financial limitations.

Either way, privatization was 100% at fault here. The university wanted to cut costs (avoid paying benefits) so they outsourced the cleaning job to a private company who hired the cheapest guy they could. The outsourced company didn’t understand or respect their research and the guy they hired obviously didn’t either.

  • Oh hey, my alma mater. Seems kinda weird anything cryogenic could be “unplugged,” since there’s a fuckoff-massive tank for liquid nitrogen outside the Low building… the tallest building on campus.

The article explains it. The freezer was wired through a disconnect box that was locked to prevent anyone from turning it off, but the janitor found the circuit panel and turned off the circuit breaker.
