I’ve always just run the server directly from the JAR in a screen session. If you’re just running a simple server and don’t need the features of Pterodactyl it’s definitely the easiest option. Just download the JAR from Minecraft’s website to a new directory, and run with java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar minecraft_server.1.21.6.jar nogui (The page says 1 gig of RAM, but I’d recommend more if you have it available).

It’s certainly better than using a random online service, but I still find the idea of being emotionally dependent on a computer algorithm deeply unsettling. I hope someday you can find a real girlfriend to talk to. :)

Huh that’s really interesting, you’re right, and I learned a lot of new stuff about networking that I didn’t know before.

If you’re not on the same local network as the server and it’s not configured to be accessible from the general internet, you need some sort of proxy to access it.

Yeah this seems fine; if they’re proxying the stream through their server it’s using their bandwidth which costs them money. It doesn’t make sense for them to not charge for it.

I can back that up; the drives I ordered were packaged in an antistatic bag, surrounded by an air filled cushion thing, in a hard cardboard box. (Assuming what I got was the “air pockets” it’s a plastic sleeve made of many pressurized sections that completely encloses the drive; definitely adequate IMO. I can dig up a pic if you want).

As a Minnesotan, that would be very bad news for anyone here enjoying having relatively okay power bills. Unfortunately I have to agree with Ford; we totally deserve it.

Obviously always issuing deletion orders would be a good thing, but it doesn’t seem like it would be very effective. It would be all too easy for the offender to stash a backup flash drive somewhere before “complying” with the order.

Regardless of whether such an organism is a danger, there’s no way we can even come close to creating an entire organism with an opposite chirality in just a decade. That would require somehow synthesizing every chiral component of the organism (proteins, enzymes, DNA, etc) from scratch which is completely impossible with current or near future technology.

Can’t Russians just use a Russia-based speed test service? The results shouldn’t be too different from a US one, other than lower latency. Or just use one of the many other US-based services.

The cargo holds on commercial flights are pressurized and heated. I can’t imagine passengers would take kindly to their luggage being subjected to 0.3x atmospheric pressure at -55°C.

I’m pretty sure the energy gained from the ice falling into the Earth’s gravity well would exceed its cooling capacity by an order of magnitude or two.

Yeah, I just left my SSH port as 22 since I only use key-based authentication so there’s really no security risk. Plus, it’s funny going through the logs and looking at all the login attempts.
