If 4chan disappears, the users wont. They will go somewhere else.
Evidence of other online communities show that this will not be the case. The community will splinter into several other forums, key users will leave and nothing will really replace the old forum
I guess I’m just a pessimist who thinks these people will never go away. I would love to be proven wrong.
My personal anecdotal half evidences is from following reddits conspiracy and right wing weirdos. From what I’ve seen, as their silly subreddits get banned, the community does splinter, the user base gets smaller but the new subs that they create usually are worse than the ones that were banned. Though they don’t seem to last as long or make as much noise as the original ones, which is obviously good.

Surely its better to keep the monkeys in the jungle and not force them to move into the cities

That’s encouraging to hear.

Is it a home, or is it more of a self-inflicted prison? I’d rather have them all in one place.

That comment says it better than I can.
I read thinking by thinning them out by spreading them we could shame them off the intent.
But that’s wishful thinking I suppose.
If they had shame they’d have disappeared decades ago.
