    Just for the record, I believe they actually could produce those things, and even some kind of symbols or art, based on engravings found in a sea cave.

      One thing I read once suggested that Homo Sapiens might have been better at communication and strategy against the stronger Neanderthals, so when there was conflict they’d tend to win and claim victory (and the women, which is why we have some Neanderthal genes). And maybe that also gave better adaptation traits when climate and other changes happened.

        As I understand it, there were six human species a mere 50Kyrs ago. Evidently we either outcompeted or genocided them all, going on to become the most dangerous animals on the planet, by far.

        Also learned from the book Sapiens that language came out of the urge to gossip. That may have been it’s very first use.
