Russia has capacity for a limited attack against NATO territory at any time but a decision to act would depend on the Western allies’ posture, a top German military official warned.

“If you look at Russia’s current capabilities and combat power, Russia could kick off a small-scale attack against NATO territory as early as tomorrow,” Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank told Reuters in an interview.

“Small, quick, regionally limited, nothing big - Russia is too tied down in Ukraine for that.”

    Title is the bait.

They have capacity, possibilities, agree. But they could? naah,

I also have ability to throw a stick, to get close to the borders and throw a stick behind some fence. Probably would be spotted by some border army, maybe could negotiate for sake of silly stick, maybe. Or maybe could try to run fast enough to throw stupid stick before soldiers would stop me from doing anything serious, or probably could get shot, at least by taser.

For sure could launch a throw of a stick from few kilometers, away from the borders, behind military zone. Would that stick be thrown strong enough, not even olimpian can throw few kilometers. Not a chance, but that still would be a launch!

    Title is the bait.

A lot hinges on the exact definition of “limited“. I could launch a limited attack on NATO today.

Fuck it, im doing it now.

NATO, bunch of assholes, you didnt get your shit together on time and couldn’t assist Ukraine consistently for 3 freaking years. now you cry because Russia keeps violating your airspace. You deserve what you get.

Here you have, a small limited verbal attack on NATO.

I might celebrate with a beer later

I recommend Carlo Masalas latest book “If Russia wins” if you are interested in how such a small scale invasion and it’s political fallout might look like.

    The gist is:

    • Take medium sized Baltic city, preferably with Russian minority and stop.
    • Wait for a NATO response.
    • If coalition forces arrive fall back behind border and go to damage control: “Lol just a prank, bro”!
    • If none arrive watch NATO tear itself apart because Article 5 is worthless.
    • Go wild in places like Moldova, Georgia and finally the Baltic’s proper because who is going to stop you?
    • Profit

Woah woah woah. Let’s not start world war 3 here! Let’s just be sensible and appease Putin some more and activate article 4 and discuss what we should do instead 🙄

You unterstand what an actual world war wohl mean? I personaly do… and trust me, the western politicians do know also.

So, even if the whole baltics go back to russia - it would be a small price compared to a full scale war (even if it would stay non nuclear)

The problem is that Russia will NOT stop. They might pause, but they can’t stop the expansion, they are culturally incapable of it.

He’s cautioning that Russia will be capable of launching a limited attack, and that they do have the motivation to do so, if NATO allows them to believe that an attack would not be met with a response.

Russia is very eager to test the strength of the NATO alliance. With the US clearly faltering, they want to know if the rest of NATO will still stand united.

No matter how much Russia arms up, defeating NATO - even without the US - is not a realistic possibility. It could be, if they heavily militarise their economy while NATO countries allow our militaries to languish. This is why increased military spending is necessary, as much as that absolutely sucks. We can no longer rely on the US to foot the bill for protecting us, and we can no longer rely on access to the global economy being enough of a draw to prevent countries like Russia from starting shit.

No one wants to live in a world where being prepared for all out war is necessary, but that is the world we live in now and there’s really nothing we can do about it.

Our only realistic option for NATO member states is to strengthen and rebuild our military forces, strengthen our bonds with each other (this is why Operation Reassurance is so important) and create a defensive posture that will prevent Russia from even thinking of trying anything, while we slowly bleed them to death with sanctions.
