I mean there are ignorant people everywhere in the world. It’s impossible to avoid them completely. That said I’m American and have only rarely received harassment due to my nationality. But I haven’t been abroad yet this year so I can’t speak to how the atmosphere has change since Trump 2.

Better solution is just to explain to people that we don’t support what’s going on and we’re subject to our government against our will just like they are.

I’m an American who lives in Europe now, and it’s pretty rare that people don’t understand that I condemn what the US is doing now. A few people who have no idea who have some brain dead hot takes, but for the most part it’s met with understanding

The only time I’ve ever gotten shit for being an American in Europe was from some skinheads on a train in Germany who got double offended at my rainbow US flag patch, who yelled a bit about American globohomo propaganda until the conductor told them to quiet down. Which was actually extra hilarious because they were basically just like “you’re lucky this old man scolded us in the German language or you’d have been in big trouble.” Which is possibly the most German thing ever.

You could stop pretending to be helpless and just one little old person for starters. Plan, collaborate with like minded people who aren’t pushovers for fascists.

Where’s all that “live free or die” rhetoric now? “Leader of the free world.” " Arsenal of democracy". “End of history”. We had to hear the nauseating rhetoric, now is the time to put up or shut up.

I’m willing to bet it’s more than you though.

My country isn’t in the middle of a fascist takeover in part because we do our civic duty.

You’re exactly the kind essentializing ignoramus that causes people to wear Canadian flags abroad.

You’re the ones stealing my flag because you’re too embarrased by who and what you really are. Stop arguing with me, stop going on vacation and stop making excuses. Put your money where your mouth is and go and fix your shit.

I don’t wear any flags because I don’t support authoritarian governments (including the Canadian government). In fact, if you paid attention, you might realize the comment you replied to was me offering an alternative solution for those who have this concern…

This is your brain on nationalism, folks. I hope you can find your way to recovery.

And I hope you can fix your shit. Having someone from the land of the Nazi and the home of the Depraved accuse others of nationalism is both mind boggling and totally on brand.

Fix your Nazi shit or die trying. No excuses.

There is nothing that says you can’t criticize someone else just because you live somewhere worse. Especially when the criticism is valid and said person is pretending their country is a paragon of virtue.

The correct answer was “yup, yer right and I will do as much as I can to do so and encourage my fellow 'muricans to as well”

Your attitude is why the article is right.

Oh gee willickers I’ll just press this depose the president button I’ve got here on my desk. Why didn’t I think of this sooner. Thank you so much!

Maybe I’m already doing that? You are speaking from a place of extreme ignorance about me and my political actions. But there is a limit to what one person can do in an authoritarian nation of 300+ million people.

Doing everything in your power to resist fascism still leads to the dilemma in question here. As this conversation demonstrates.
