A dispute about a ship full of stolen grain has lifted the veil on a geopolitical reality that has persisted for years but is rarely mentioned in western capitals or noticed by western media: the curiously friendly relationship between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to X to complain that a Panama-flagged ship was preparing to unload 25,000 tonnes of wheat and barley stolen from his country in Haifa, Israel. An investigation by Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz suggests the Panormitis was at least the fifth ship so far this year to carry grain taken from occupied Ukraine to Israel.
“In any normal country, purchasing stolen goods is an act that entails legal liability,” Zelenskyy wrote. "This is not — and cannot be — legitimate business. The Israeli authorities cannot be unaware of which ships are arriving at the country’s ports and what cargo they are carrying.”
Israel is buddy buddy with both Russia and China it is abhorrent they have so much access to western technology to trade for favors from those countries.
Believe it or not, Israeli society is built on theft and they do not care how the Ukrainians feel about missing grain shipments.
I’ll laugh if they call Volodymyr Zelenskyy an anti-semite.
If opponent jew = “self hating jew”
If opponent not jew = “antisemite”
They don’t even try, because why bother when western capitalism supports their fascist genocidal ethnostate?
lol clearly he’s a a kapo, trying to starve Jews by denying them Ukrainian grain. In Israel he’s called “Holodomor Zelenskyy” and they burn his effigy every time they receive more wheat.
What, so they’re just keeping busy burning Zelenskyy effigies while restocking, so they can then continue burning Palestinian children?
I know sarcasm is hard to convey, but that was clearly a joke.
Nobody in Israel cares about Ukraine. Yes the Israelis are committing genocide, no they’re not crying about Zelenskyy.
This is cynical, but if the Zelenskyy regime won the Ukrainian war tomorrow, the grain would probably keep flowing, as the EU is aiding and abetting the genocide (and Zelenskyy wants Ukraine to join the EU/NATO).
Germany refuses to admit the genocide is happening. Very few countries have actually sanctioned Israel, and weapons keep flowing. Zelenskyy is mad that he doesn’t control the territory that is sending them grain and therefore is getting nothing out of Israel. He’s mad that Israel is getting better support from the EU/Nato than he is.
I mean Israel do not have a single sanction of Russia and the west do not pressure Israel to do it. Russia also coordinated with Israel in Syria. It is not surprising that Israel do not care about Ukraine.
Guys I’m really beginning to think the Israeli govt might be tied up with some criminal activities.
I hope I never again have to hear Ukraine say that they aspire to be a “big Israel”.
Also, how does Israel have so much support even among adversaries? Russia, USA & EU … chilling.
Ukraine has shown a willingness to glaze anyone who might help them.
As far as why Israel has support, that probably has a lot to do with external interests in keeping the middle east divided. They want to promote enough competition in the region to prevent a global superpower from emerging, and they’d prefer to have to biggest regional power be as non Muslim as possible. If a middle eastern power or alliance could control most of the middle east, it would be one of if not the most powerful entity on earth. Israel promotes the chaos that prevents an Islamic alliance that many middle eastern powers have toyed with over the past century. An explicitly non Muslim ethnostate would never join such efforts, and would likely be perpetually outnumbered and unable to become that middle eastern superpower themselves.
The answer is racism and doctrines of cultural supremacy. Also a lot of guilt about what happened to the Jews in WWII as a result of racism and doctrines of cultural supremacy.
(This is overly simplistic, of course, but it covers quite a lot of it.)
Apparently many Israeli people are also mad about Ukraine’s close relations with Turkey. (Turkey and Israel are in competing emerging power blocks)
the curiously friendly relationship between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Why is that curious? I think it makes perfect sense.
